Code Word Brain Terms & Conditions* I agree to the terms and conditions
Please read these terms & conditions carefully. By placing an order with Code Word Brain, you are agreeing to these T&Cs:
The enrolled participant shall be referred to below as the ‘participant’ & the person who makes payment for the participant’s program shall be referred to as the ‘subscriber’. Where the participant and the subscriber are the one person, these terms are interchangeable.
1) The Scientific Learning products (Fast ForWord® and Reading Assistant Plus™) are used throughout the world, and as an Accredited Provider, Code Word Brain is permitted to offer these programs in Australian States and Territories only
(a) At the time of enrolment, the enrolling participant must reside in Australia
(b) A valid postal address for the participant (or parent/guardian) must be supplied.
2) The effectiveness of the Fast ForWord® products have been proven by vast, scientifically-based research, yet, as individual brains differ, Code Word Brain cannot warrant a particular outcome or result:
(a) The subscriber agrees their expectations of any outcomes from doing the Fast ForWord® program allow for the constraints on the effectiveness of the program (point 19).
3) Fast ForWord requires ongoing, computer-based training. Code Word Brain recommends participants who experience epilepsy, depression, anxiety &/or other affective disorders, seek medical advice in relation to fatigue (or other) before enrolling.
4) Code Word Brain will provide basic technical support relating to the Fast ForWord® and Reading Assistant Plus™ programs but will not be responsible for the compatibility or performance of the participant’s computing device. The Fast ForWord® and Reading Assistant Plus™ products are delivered online using a computer or iPad®:
(a) By enrolling a child, a subscriber verifies that the parent/guardian has consented to the child using these online programs.
(b) The installation of all products is the responsibility of the subscriber, parent, or guardian.
(c) The subscriber/parent/guardian is responsible for providing the computer equipment, other software, approved headphones/headsets, telecommunications links, and/or internet access and must ensure they meet the system requirements provided by Scientific Learning Corporation®, the makers of Fast ForWord & Reading Assistant Plus. System requirements can be viewed here: https://help.scilearn.com/slchelp/MSL_Help/Content/SLP/System_requirements_CH.htm
5) Data will be automatically uploaded to Scientific Learning’s MySciLearn™ online platform:
(a) The subscriber/parent/guardian acknowledges and accepts that participant data/records will be stored online.
(b) The subscriber/parent/guardian accepts that Code Word Brain receives data about participant performance via its Fast ForWord® Supplier (LearnFast Australia & New Zealand Pty. Ltd.) and through Scientific Learning’s MySciLearn™ platform, and this data may be used on an anonymous basis for research, norming, marketing, and other purposes.
6) Training with Code Word Brain is typically by the calendar-month (starting on the 1st of a month) for $360 per month, working on one main mission, or one main mission plus a 2nd or 3rd mission depending on the latest protocol option chosen by the subscriber in consultation with Code Word Brain. Mid-month starts by agreement, on the 7th or 14th, for $282 and $205, respectively.
(a) For brain plasticity purposes and best results, participants should complete their online skills practice 3 to 5 days each week & allow for a minimum of 2 rest days (which can be consecutive or otherwise), while ensuring no more than a 3-day gap & no less than a 1-day gap between each training.
(b) Research shows that continuous days away from the set protocol weakens program/learning outcomes incrementally.
(c) Participants must use Fast ForWord in accordance with their chosen protocol and any planned, unplanned, or extended breaks of 4 consecutive days or more (during an active subscription) should be discussed with Code Word Brain, as a priority.
(d) Should a 21-day (or more) mid-module break occur, depending on the level of completion at that time, in line with positive brain plasticity research, the participant’s module may require restarting due to the prescriptive nature of the product.
(e) Sleep is important for learning consolidation, so good sleeping routines during Fast ForWord training are important: Sleep recommendations: School-age children (6-13): 9-12 hours; Teens (14-18): 8-10 hours; Adults: 7--9 hours. Consider napping for short periods (20 to 30 mins) to supplement inadequate night-time sleep, particularly between 1 & 3 pm.
7) Research into brain plasticity (the ability of the brain to rewire and improve) demonstrates the most efficient way to drive brain change is to learn appropriate tasks in a frequent, intense timeframe:
(a) The subscriber/parent/guardian understands the Fast ForWord products may require at least (but not be limited to) the following estimated participation periods (these estimations reflect the common protocol of 5 x 30mins/week & do not guarantee your child will complete all content within a mission category, rather they suggest a time period beneficial for learning consolidation based on intensity, frequency & repetition). The choice to stay longer &/or work on additional content remains an option. There are 4 mission categories & each one contains multiple (levelled) individual missions except School/Reading Readiness which is one and the same & may take as little as 1 to 2-months to complete for some.
i) If a participant is at age level, or less than a year behind in reading – allow approx. 2 to 4 months per mission
ii) If a participant is 1 to 1.5 years behind in reading – allow approximately 3 to 6 months per mission
iii) If a participant is more than 1.5 years behind in reading – allow approximately 10 to 12 months per mission
8) To maintain quality of service, enrolment places with Code Word Brain may be limited.
9) Teacher Calls can be voice or video via Zoom, and Code Word Brain requires learners to be seated at a suitable, distraction-free desk, in a quiet living area of the home (not bedroom), with parent supervision at all times.
10) Code Word Brain offers first-time subscribers a conditional 14-day-guarantee, namely, the 2 Week Satisfaction Scope Out, for which qualification prevails only if the registered participant has never previously been enrolled at Code Word Brain and if they have fully & reasonably complied at least the minimum participation requirement of 3 x 30-minute Fast ForWord training-days per week over their first 2 weeks — in this instance if the subscriber so chooses, upon a termination request within 14-days of the start-date, Code Word Brain will grant a refund of the subscriber’s package cost, less $125 for teacher services rendered.
a. Must start within 3 months of purchase, on the 1st of a month or on a day agreed upon in writing by Code Word Brain.
b. If the guarantee is requested, with all conditions met, Code Word Brain will cancel the participant’s program/s, remove the participant’s progress & completion history from the MySciLearn™ platform, & issue the refund.
c. Does not apply to any separately purchased teacher calls, or other optional extras/purchases.
d. Code Word Brain will not make any refund of any part of the payment received after the initial 14-day period—except if the participant is prevented from doing the exercises for an extended period due to a technical fault in the software.
i. The amount of such refund will be at the sole discretion of Code Word Brain & an administration fee may be deducted. An alternative technology-based, educational program may be offered in lieu of a refund.
11) Auto-payment is via Ezidebit® (credit card or bank transfer) & payments for new months must clear prior to commencing the month. No surcharge for Direct Debits. Credit Card fees apply for Visa & Master Card 2.2%; Amex & Diners 4.4%.
(a) For each fully registered participant, payment unlocks simultaneous program access options, of up to 3 x 30-minute trainings per day, 5-days per week; and a monthly 30-minute teacher call.
i) There is the choice to focus on one single mission (for a more intensive option) or 2 Fast ForWord missions simultaneously, or 2 Fast ForWord missions & Reading Assistant Plus, or a combination of one Fast ForWord mission & Reading Assistant Plus.
ii) Purchases work by the calendar month and all unused package inclusions expire month-end.
iii) Where a subscriber is uncontactable for a scheduled appointment, an email update will be sent in lieu.
iv) A commitment gift is offered when participants stay beyond the first 2-weeks & complete 2-consecutive weeks of at least 3 full sessions per week, or 12-days of training, or 1 month - whichever comes first. Gift subject to change.
(b) If multiple family members train in the same calendar month, additional members have the option to receive 10% off a full, teacher-led package or enrol in a lighter sibling package for $250, where the program usage is reduced to 5-days @ 30-minutes per day each week, and there is no teacher call included.
i) To qualify, additional family members must share the same contact person & address, be enrolled during the same calendar month & at least one family member must be registered/subscribed to the full $360 package.
ii) Through consultation with Code Word Brain, a fully registered participant’s program access may be shared, in 30-minute blocks only, with additional family members on a sibling package, who are simultaneously registered at Code Word Brain.
12) To facilitate automatic payments, subscribers must notify Code Word Brain prior to their auto-pay date (the 1st day of each new month) if they wish to change program options for an upcoming month or if they plan to end the participant’s registration.
13) Reading Assistant Plus requires a suitable microphone headset to ensure the audio quality required for the speech recognition/processing technology. Code Word Brain does not supply or sell the headsets.
14) The participant (or parent/guardian working with a participant) is responsible for ensuring compliance so that all exercises presented each day are completed. This will result in the best possible outcome, and:
(a) The software or materials provided with the training programs (the ‘licensed materials’) must only be used by the enrolled participant and the monthly minute allowance (based on 20 x 90-minutes per month for a teacher-led package, and 20 x 30-mins per month on the light, sibling package) must not be exceeded unless done so in agreement with Code Word Brain.
(b) If the maximum minutes/training days for the month are reached, the program will become unavailable until such time paid access is renewed, or an agreement is reached in writing by Code Word Brain.
15) All activation codes, passwords, and identification numbers relating to the products or services at Code Word Brain are to be kept confidential and not shared with anyone except the participant and the participant’s parents/guardians.
16) You agree not to copy, rent, lease, lend, license, sub-license, sell, export, assign, transfer or in any other way disseminate, reverse engineer, decompile, or create derivative works or adaptations of the Fast ForWord® or Reading Assistant Plus™ software.
16) Code Word Brain may change prices & price structures for new or renewal subscriptions as necessary but will notify subscribers of any change before their next automatic payment occurs.
17) Code Word Brain may provide limited rights to switch a participant between Reading Assistant Plus™ grade bands, or Fast ForWord® programs, particularly if the switch provides no reasonable benefit to the registered participant. To protect learning integrity, Code Word Brain has no obligation to permit a participant to be switched between products.
18) Code Word Brain provides links to third-party websites that are maintained by others, solely as a convenience to customers; not as an endorsement of the contents. Code Word Brain is not responsible for the content of linked third-party sites & does not make any representations regarding the content or accuracy of materials on such third-party websites.
19) The following considerations may impact the effectiveness of Fast ForWord® and Reading Assistant Plus™.
(a) Ability to use a mouse or iPad® – the participant must be capable of using a mouse, or their iPad®, to interact with software.
(b) Ability to wear over-the-ear headphones for the duration of a training session – even in a professional sound-proof booth, about 15-20% of the value of the acoustically modified speech in Fast ForWord® is reported to be lost if circumaural (fully enclosed ear) headphones are not worn. Bluetooth Headphone dropouts can interfere with program audio,
(c) Autism – depending on where the participant is on the spectrum, progress may be limited or slow;
(d) Cerebral Palsy – due to physical restraints progress may be limited or slow with the Fast ForWord® products;
(e) Colour Blindness – some exercises rely on colour differentiation within the Fast ForWord® products;
(f) Developmental Delay or Intellectual Impairment – progress may be limited or slow with the Fast ForWord® products;
(g) Down Syndrome – progress may be limited or slow with the Fast ForWord® products;
(h) Dyspraxia – Fast ForWord® will not help with the motor planning of Dyspraxia but may be of use in language development;
(i) Hearing Impairment – some users with hearing impairment may need an FM loop as Fast ForWord® and Reading Assistant Plus™ require the participant to be able to hear auditory stimuli;
(j) Sight Impairment – Fast ForWord® and Reading Assistant Plus™ rely on viewing a computer screen;
(k) To make full use of Reading Assistant Plus™, a participant must be able to (orally) read a minimum of 25 words correct per minute as the program uses speech recognition & speech processing technology, however, partial use will still be of benefit.
